Speak, Memory: The Role of Memory in Reading and Writing
October 22, 2022 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
With authors Bonnie Sherr Klein, Marion Crook, & Claire Finlayson
A panel of local authors Bonnie Sherr Klein (Slow Dance: A Story of Stroke, Love and Disability, and Beep, Beep, Bubbie), Marion Crook (Always Pack a Candle: A Nurse in the Cariboo-Chilcotin) and Claire Finlayson (Dispatches from Ray’s Planet: A Journey through Autism) will present short readings from their books, three of which were reviewed by the Vancouver Sun’s Tom Sandborn — a special guest. All of their books draw on memory and exemplify different ways of relating to lived experience. Then join a discussion of the books’ themes, the current popularity of memoirs, and the alchemical work of the writer turning raw memory into literature.
With financial assistance from The Canada Council for the Arts through the Writers Union of Canada.
