GDPL Public Computer & Internet Access Policy

The library has a number of public access computer stations available for public use. Computer and Internet access is provided free of charge to visitors and library patrons. GDPL recognizes the Internet as a resource tool to be used to allow the public enhanced access to information. There are no filters on the Internet access: the library is not responsible for the content of what is viewed on the Internet. The library’s public computer network is not secure: use of the library computers or privately owned computers in the library is solely at the risk of the user.

Usage Behaviour: Anyone misusing or damaging a Library computer, reprogramming a Library computer, tampering with hardware or software, or using the Internet for illegal or unethical purposes will have their computer use privileges suspended, may be prosecuted, and will be held liable for any damage to Library Property.

Staff Assistance: Where time permits, library staff may provide assistance to computer users although we may not be familiar with every application patrons might want to use.

Printing: A printer is available for use. Copies are 25 cents per page for black and white, and 50 cents for colour- payable at the Information desk. Downloading is available.

Important Notice: Users are reminded that the Library computers are being used in public areas which are shared by people of all ages, backgrounds, and sensibilities. Some content may be age-inappropriate for children, offensive, objectionable and/or intimidating to other Library patrons and/or staff. Library staff reserve the right to redirect users whose activities on the public computers diminish the enjoyment of the Library space by others.

Note for Parents: Parents are responsible for supervising their child’s access to all library resources, including the Internet. Children need advice and guidance to make the most of the Internet experience.

Access to the public computers is 1 hour each day, with time extensions granted by staff discretion.
